How old do I have to be to volunteer at the ReStore?
Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, there must be at least one adult per 5 children. Volunteers under the age of 12 are not permitted to volunteer at the ReStore.
What kind of work will I do at ReStore as a volunteer?
Volunteer work includes:
- STOCKING - accepting donations, testing donations to make sure they work, cleaning/assembling/repairing donations prior to stocking, making sure donations are priced prior to stocking, stocking donations on sales floor and ,keeping the store inventory organized and clean.
- SELLING - helping customers find items, providing advice to customers, running the cash register and helping customers load their purchases.
- OFFICE WORK - customer data base entry, maintaining store business and operational materials
What should I wear while volunteering at ReStore?
Dress for volunteers is casual (t-shirts and jeans). Wear clothing you can get dirty, including sturdy boots or closed-in shoes and work gloves. Sandals are not permitted.
Will I be served lunch at ReStore while volunteering?
Volunteers are responsible for their own lunch. A break room with a refrigerator and microwave is available, and there are several inexpensive places to eat in the immediate area.
Can I bring my own personal items with me to ReStore?
Volunteers are responsible for any of their personal possessions they choose to bring.
Can I just show up and begin my work?
Upon arriving at the ReStore the first time, every volunteer must complete a volunteer information form , which includes agreeing to the Waiver of Liability and the Volunteer Code of Conduct.
Can volunteers work at the store every day?
Volunteers are needed at the ReStore Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm and Saturday, 9am - 5pm. The ReStore is closed on Sundays. If there is any question about whether the ReStore is open (inclement weather, etc.) please call ReStore Alexandria at 703-360-6700, ReStore Chantilly at 703-953-3747 or the Habitat office at (703) 521-9890 ext. 123.
Do volunteers receive a discount for working at ReStore?
Volunteers who sign up to work a consistent regular shift receive a free t-shirt and a 20% discount on an item at the store.
