President Obama and Congress recently passed legislation officially making 9/11 a National Day of Service, encouraging all Americans to volunteer or perform a service activity on that day. The mission of the day of service is to honor the victims of 9/11 and those who served to help others on that day. Read Obama's letter

Also, mark your calendars for World Habitat Day on Monday, October 5th. The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. The idea is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat. This year's theme is Planning Our Urban Future, to raise awareness of the need to improve urban planning to deal with new major challenges of the 21st century.
